On June 5, 2020 our mother slipped away peacefully in her sleep after 95 wonderful years on this earth, to go home to her Maker. Elizabeth Ida Schwartz (nee Hart) was born January 27, 1925 on the family farm north of Cupar to Philip and Barbara Hart. Liz was the youngest of 8 children, all of who predeceased her, with her last sibling passing in 2011. Liz attended school at Lepescu, which was later named Princess Elizabeth. In 1943, Liz married Bill Schwartz. Together they farmed north of Cupar for almost 50 years, which included both grain and livestock farming. This is where they raised their family of five, which later turned into a family of over 60. Liz grew up during the depression years. This taught her to be a resilient, thrifty and resourceful person. Their household was full of love and laughter. As a family unit, they worked hard on the farm to provide for their needs, but always found time to have fun. Card games were played at the kitchen table, sing-alongs occurred while milking cows, which on more than one occasion she did by herself. Liz was an exceptional baker and an amazing cook! Her cabbage rolls and pickles were second to none, as was her homemade bread. She dabbled in homemade wine, jellies, jams and mastered the art of cinnamon and poppy buns. She was a mean soup maker; excelling with Borscht in particular. Her sewing skills were also exceptional! Religion played a prominent part in Liz’s life, as well. She was a part of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cupar, including being a member of the Ladies Aid Society and the church choir. Liz attended church regularly when she could, including services at the Regina Lutheran Home. During her final days, she did her best to pray with her family and was able to have a final visit with Pastor Ted Giese before she passed. Liz was predeceased by Bill in 1991 and her son in law Leo Machniak in 2018. She leaves to mourn, her immense legacy, which includes her daughter Bev Machniak; sons Garry (Coleen) and Ken (Nancy); daughters Brenda (Morris) Schuster and Barb (Ken) Weisbrod. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Eleanor Schwartz. The family would like to thank the Regina Lutheran Home for their compassion and care during the final leg of her journey. Donations may be made in her name to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Cupar, Saskatchewan. Due to the current pandemic, a private family service will be held at a later date.
