September 28, 1932–March 11, 2026
We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Elnor Harrison (née Scott) on March 11 at the age of 93. She was blessed with a long, healthy life until just the past two months.
Elnor was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, to George and Ida Scott, the eldest of five children, and she grew up on a farm north of Fiske. She loved going down to the barn to play with the kittens. She remembered horseback riding by herself at the age of six to go to school. In winter, her dad would take the children in a buggy with heated stones to keep them warm.
Elnor completed Grade 12 at Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute in Outlook in 1951 and was the valedictorian. She then moved to Saskatoon and got a job as a housemaid. She took a sewing course during the evenings and then went to work as a fur finisher for Remphrey Furriers. In the fall of 1954, she became a clerk/typist for the Canadian Bible Society and worked there until 1961.
In the meantime, she met William (Bill) Harrison, a dark-haired, handsome young man who came to visit his sister Pearl at the boarding house where Elnor was staying. They soon started dating and got married on July 15, 1959, in Zion Lutheran Church in Saskatoon. Elnor was a good seamstress and sewed her wedding dress and all three bridesmaids’ dresses. She was also very frugal (Scottish descent).
In the fall of 1961, Bill and Elnor moved to Kayville, Saskatchewan, where he became the principal of the school. Donna (1961) and Dallas (1963) were born at Bengough. The family moved two years later to Limerick, and Delmer (1964) was born in Assiniboia. Bill and Elnor made many Christian and Romanian friends in that district as they attended the Woodrow Church. In 1965, they moved to Dysart and settled down as Bill taught high school, and Elnor lived there till the fall of 2023, for 58 years. Two more boys were added to the family, John (1967) and Garnet (1968).
Elnor was very busy looking after the children and house, tending a big garden, canning fruit (and beet pickles!), and freezing vegetables. She was a good cook and baker, and we always had good meals. She became involved in the community and was the treasurer for the Dysart Rink for 14 years, a treasurer/volunteer at the Dysart and District Museum, a member of the Dysart Library, and a volunteer with the figure skating club and 4H.
As a family, we faithfully attended the Lipton Evangelical Church, and Elnor taught Sunday School and Junior Church for many years. She was the president of the Women’s Missions Committee and Evangelical Women’s Society plus secretary for the Church Council. Elnor also served as a zone coordinator for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Gideons and was the secretary for the local branch and for the Area Conference of the Gideons. She was the registrar for the JOY (Just Older Youth) retreat for many years at Echo Lake Bible Camp. Bill and Elnor also hosted Bible studies in their home for many years, and she hosted and taught Five-Day Clubs for children in Dysart in her backyard when she was in her 70s!
In later years, Elnor took up bowling and going to seniors’ games. She was also a caregiver in her 80s to a lady in Dysart for several years and looked after her mother for many years and then Bill when he got dementia.
Elnor had a quiet but strong faith in her Lord and Saviour, in whom she placed her faith when she was around 12. She had a servant’s heart and was very industrious, steadfast, patient, and quiet. She was a good hostess and enjoyed having people over a lot, especially for Sunday dinners.
Elnor enjoyed playing Scrabble and Golf (the card game), writing letters, sewing, quilting, and mending. She also made sure that we, her kids, had our homework done and helped us to study for exams, and she typed up Bill’s reports for school and church. At the age of 45, she got her driver’s licence, which gave her more freedom.
Elnor travelled to several places around the world but really preferred to stay home. She travelled to England, Germany, Portugal, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Hong Kong, India, and Disneyland.
In September 2023, Elnor moved to Regina to live at The Bentley (assisted living) and enjoyed having company and listening to music there. In December 2025, she moved to Harvest Haven in Regina but then developed congestive heart failure and was in the hospital for over a month, and just recently she was moved to Broadview Centennial Lodge for one week and died there from kidney failure. Elnor is now in heaven with her beloved Saviour, Jesus Christ, and rejoicing with other loved ones.
