Mr. Ethan Alexander Bassendowski

October 16, 1928November 7, 2020

Ethan Alexander “Bazz” Bassendowski, 92, departed quietly on the 7th of November, 2020 after a short illness. Ethan was born October 16, 1928 on a farm near Kelstern, Saskatchewan. He had an engaging career with SaskPower finishing as Superintendent of Research & Development. Never one to be content with retirement, our father always liked to keep busy and had his own consulting business until 70 and then served on his local Condo Board as Treasurer until his loss of vision forced him to resign in his late seventies. His hobbies were many and in his early years, he was a private pilot and Harley Davidson owner. His love of aviation continued and he always looked forward to the annual Moose Jaw Air show. In his retirement, he spent many winters building his radio controlled planes to fly every summer with the Windy Flyers club. Dad enjoyed travelling, making trips to Hawaii, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Alaska. As a family, we made many vacation trips with the small Scamper trailer. Also, he was an avid RV enthusiast and he and Mom would take their 26 foot “SS Bazz” on summer tours with The Good Sam RV club where he was a Wagon Master. When his grandsons were young, Dad enjoyed taking them to Moose Jaw in the RV. After some coaxing from them, it was probably quite a sight to see him coming down the waterslides. Dad loved tinkering with anything electronic and always was ready to fix our numerous vehicles. He loved music, with acoustic guitar and fiddle music being his favourite types. He had a soft spot for his kids and grandsons, was generous, hardworking, kind, helpful, and loved a good joke. Our Father had a good long life with no regrets and stands as an example of a life well lived. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta, his daughter, Sandra, his parents, Jake and Suzie, and his brothers, Harry and Victor. He is survived by his son Dale, wife Ana Maria and step daughter Antonia of Chile, and his daughter Jan and husband Glen and grandchildren Johnathan (wife Jess) and Daniel all of Regina, and numerous in-laws and nieces, nephews, and cousins. A special thank you to all the staff at Extendicare Elmview for taking such good care of Dad these past few years. Also, a thank you to the doctors and nurses at RGH emergency and 3F. Due to Covid restrictions, there will be a private funeral for immediate family.

A great neighbor, fine fellow and some one who could fix anything. When the neighbor's garage burned down he broke his thumb pounding on our front door at two in the morning getting us awake and into the minus 30 weather. He then directed the fire department on how to approach the fire.
