OBITUARY

Florence A. Barrow

June 28, 1933February 15, 2021

Florence Agnes Barrow (nee Schatz), passed away on February 15, 2021. She was born on June 28, 1933 on a farm north of Vibank, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her parents Sophia May (Sali) in 1993 and Benedict John Schatz in 1996 as well as her daughter Alexis Carol Barrow in 2020. She is survived by her beloved daughter Dianne Carla Barrow of Regina. Florence attended school in Odessa, Saskatchewan for two years, then moved to Regina after her father returned from overseas with the Canadian Army. She then attended St. Joseph R.C. School, Balfour Technical School, and later the University of Saskatchewan where she excelled in administration and accounting. She worked many years for various financial institutions as the accountant, after which she worked for the provincial government for 18.5 years, ten of which were as office manager/accountant for a provincial crown corporation. After the corporation was dismantled she worked for a truck and trailer company as office manager until her retirement in 1994 due to health problems. Florence raised both daughters single-handedly, during which time she worked while up-grading her education. She enjoyed her family and many pets, and dabbled in painting stationary, writing poetry, sewing, and decorative stitch-work. Florence was active in Holy Child and St. Joseph the Worker R.C. parishes, where she was involved in Children’s liturgy for eleven years, as well, as well as other ministries. For a short time she was also active in Bible studies, Lifeline Ministries and Samaritan’s Pantry. During her retirement Florence sponsored two foster children, a boy in Chile, and a girl in Ukraine, through Christian Child Care International in Springhill Nova Scotia. She also worked diligently on her genealogy; tracing both sides of her family back to the early 1700’s. She found she was blessed with wonderful relatives and many distant cousins whom she got to know personally via the internet during her research. Florence self-published four family history books on the Sali, Schatz, Lacher and Walijor families. A funeral service will be held at Victoria Avenue Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. and the interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined, but donations to the Regina Humane Society, The Heart & Stroke Foundation in Saskatoon, and the Christian Child Care International (WWW.CHALICE.CA) would be appreciated.
