June 10th, 1948 - September 19th, 2022
Bud, as he was known to everyone, was born on June 10th 1948, the second son of Leo and Anne Lynch.
The family lived in a small two storey house in the centre of section 23 southwest of Sedley for a while and moved down the road to where Dennis presently lives. There were five kids in the family; Dennis, Bud, Marilyn, Joanne and Sharon. He grew up with his cousins, Tom and Brian, living across the road from them. The 4 boys had many adventures together as youngsters until the cousins moved away.
Bud went to school in Sedley. In order to do this, they had to own property in town, so Leo bought a house in Sedley. They lived there every winter and moved back to farm for seeding time in the spring. Once they were a bit older, they would get in trouble with the nuns because they would miss school to help with harvest. They often caught a ride to school with Bill Sommerville while they lived on the farm. Bud remembered being were very disappointed when Leo bought a jeep, which meant they never missed school again.
As all country boys do, Bud skated and played hockey in the winter, playing in all the local rinks. He quite often talked about how terribly cold the rinks were and freezing his feet off while he played. He never gave details, just chuckled at the memories of the dressing room antics.
Bud graduated from Sedley High School and went on to the U of S to study Agriculture but by his own admission he probably played more bridge at the back of the classroom than he paid attention. After two years of university, he lived at home with his parents to farm every summer and went to work up north after harvest was done in the fall. He also worked at the Regina Curling Club making ice and worked with the ice crew for the 1983 Silver Broom that was in Regina.
He met Esther in 1977 and they got married July 22nd, 1983 while living in Regina. After Ryan was born in 1984, they decided to move out to the farm, after Leeah was born in 1988, they built a house on a new yard site kitty corner from Dennis.
Bud was always the life of the party and was usually the last one to leave whether it be a drinking at the bar, the coffee shop on a rainy day or a gathering at a friends house. He had a sense of humour all his own, and you weren’t likely to forget him. His teasing, his practical jokes and his story telling were always good natured, often complex and everyone was fair game; from his in-laws to the office staff at the elevators. You were either rolling your eyes and chuckling or doubled over laughing by the end. Canasta and Cribbage were a big part of his teasing as well, he was good at them but it was the horse shoes he had in his back pocket every time he played cards that led to him calling himself the CCGM (Canasta and Cribbage Grand Master).
Even though he grew up a farmer and was a farmer to the core, Bud did get acquainted with ranch life after meeting Esther and he learned how to wrestle calves at brandings, ride horses and handle cattle. He would be the first to admit that he mastered none of these endeavours, but enjoyed getting to know the ranchers.
In 2016 Bud was diagnosed with Parkinson’s but it was Atypical Parkinson’s with Lewy Body Syndrome. His mobility and his health rapidly deteriorated; such that by 2018 a live in caregiver was needed. He moved to William Albert House in Emerald Park in July where he spent his remaining time.
Bud is predeceased by his parents, Leo and Anne Lynch; brother-in-law, Keith; sister-in-law, Roxanne and cousins Dwain and Brian. He is survived by his wife Esther, son Ryan (Eden), daughter Leeah, his siblings; Dennis (Annette), Marilyn, Joanne (Mike), and Sharon, his mother-in-law Elsie and brother-in-law Brent (Joan).
