Fred Shtuka passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK. on Monday, February 8, 2021 with family by his side. He was born on June 23, 1931 to Anna and William Shtuka; the eldest of 10 children Mary, Olive, Steve, Helen, Mike, Pauline (deceased), Peter, Rosanne and Sonja. He is survived by his three children Darin, Denita, and Debbie (Garth); his two grand children Jennifer (Justin) Scott, Michelle (Travis) Goodman and great grandchild Oliver.
He grew up on a farm near Preeceville and was a teacher at a local school before moving to Regina where he worked for the provincial government as a tax auditor for 33 years. He was a self taught carpenter which enabled him to rent concrete basement forms, demolish and renovate homes. He became a lifelong fan of the Roughriders and was an avid curler, both locally and in interprovincial bonspiels.
In the early 1970’s he purchased Glen Harbour and eventually was able to develop the property with the help of a long time friend Harvey McEwan. Both played a major role in creating the community that exists today. He loved life at Glen Harbour where he could enjoy the trees, wildlife, his dogs, family and friends. There he could build sheds and renovate cabins, plant trees, demolish a local grain elevator and move just about anything with his two caterpillars...but fix anything mechanical he could not.
He will be remembered for his love of perogies, relaxing on the lounge chair at the end of the day with Chickadees eating seeds off his shirt and the many memories he created with family and friends.
We would like to thank the nurses and doctors in palliative care for their great care and support.
As per his wishes, a private family celebration will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Fred may be made to a charity of your choice.
