Heinrich (Heinz) Bergen, age 93 of Regina, passed away on September 22, 2020. Heinz was born in Kronsgard, Ukraine a German Mennonite Community on April 6, 1927. He is predeceased by his parents Jakob and Maria, as well as a brother Jakob. Heinz is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maria, children: Marielee (Gerry), Jack (Cheryl), Ingrid (Randy), and Mark as well as six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Heinz retired in June 1989 after 30 years of teaching with the Regina Board of Education. He taught Industrial Arts, History and Mathematics at both Scott and Robert Usher Collegiates in Regina. Heinrich completed a B.A. in Social Sciences as well as a Masters in Humanities from the University of Washington in Seattle. Heinz was fluent in six languages. He published and contributed to numerous historical documents. Heinrich was a member of Grace Mennonite Church in Regina since 1959 as well as the Mennonite Historical Society of Saskatchewan. Heinz loved spending time on his farm property just south of Saskatoon. He also loved photography, traveling and hiking in the mountains. He was generous, kind and enjoyed conversing with others (preferably over a coffee). Due to the current pandemic, a memorial service will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Heinz can be made to a charity of your choice.
