Jacob Daniel Ermel, late of Cupar, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the age of 92. Jake was born to Henry and Amelia (Heinrich) Ermel on March 2, 1923 on a farm north of Cupar. At age 3, Jake and his family moved to Lumsden where they lived until 1931 when they made their way back to the Cupar area. Jake attended Wiley Country School until Grade 8, when he remained at home to help build the family farm. Jake farmed for 42 years, was a great carpenter and helped build several houses in Cupar, led the construction of St. Paul Lutheran Church and proudly built his own house in Cupar. After retirement, Jake continued to help his brother Norman on the farm wherever needed and his knack for farm machinery mechanics was called upon by others. His quiet nature, sense of humour and wisdom will be missed. Jake is predeceased by his wife Helen, sister Kay, brother John and great-grandson Levi. Jake leaves to mourn his daughters, Margie (Warren) Buck and Laura McClughan all of Regina; his step-daughter Carol (Vince) Machniak of Cupar; his grandchildren, Lyndsey (Riley) Siebert, Landace (Jon) McClughan, Colton, Dakota and Lexie Buck all of Regina; Sandra (Russel) Ban, Randy (Jody) Machniak of Cupar and great-grandchildren Zoey Siebert, Dylan, Amber, Hannah and Ethan Ban. Jake is also survived by his sister, Elsie (Karl) Weisbrod of Disley, brother, Norman (Joyce) Ermel and sister-in-law Elsie Ermel of Cupar, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Thank you to Louise and staff of the Cupar and District Nursing Home for the special care provided to Dad over the past 5 years. A celebration of Jake’s life will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cupar on Tuesday, December 8 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in care of St. Paul Lutheran Church Cupar, SK S0G 0Y0.
