James Don McKay

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Don on Thursday, October 17, 2013 with his loving family by his side. He was a caring and loving husband, father, grandpa, son, brother, uncle and will be missed by all who knew him. Don’s early years were spent in St. Lazare, Manitoba. His family moved to Allan, Saskatchewan where he spent his teenage years. As an adult Don moved to Regina and found employment with the Provincial Government in the Department of Agriculture where he remained for thirty-five years. Early in his career he met Gloria and the two were wed on August 3, 1974. In 1975 they moved out to Zehner where they raised their 3 children and enjoyed the simple rural life. Don enjoyed camping with his family and volunteered to coach or manage his son’s hockey and ball teams. In his retirement he especially enjoyed taking his grandsons on camping trips and watching their hockey, soccer and ball games. He was predeceased by his father Rusty, brother Jack, sisters Jeanette and Joyce ( Marc), nephews Marc Gerwing and Matthew McKay. Don is survived by his wife Gloria, mother Irene, children Chris, Jeremy (Marci) and Andrea, grandchildren Seth, Logan, Thomas & Declan, brothers Ernie (Debbie), Rick (Lynn), Ken & Curly, sisters Jackie (Ron) Hayden, Margaret (Pat) O'Grady, Diane (Denis) Jacques and sister-in-law Bev Kirk (Joe Appell), as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
