passed away at Deer View Lodge, Wawota, Saskatchewan on Sunday December 7, 2025 at the age of 94 years. Wes Harrison was born on 28 December 1930 at Maryfield, Saskatchewan to parents John and Violet (Fair) Harrison. He lived his early years on the farm south of Maryfield along with grandparents George and Effie Fair and his older sisters Jean and Florence.
He shared wonderful times taking walks with his blind grandma and describing all the things he could see. He learned to play the violin, piano and accordion but mostly loved to play his banjo. When Wes was ten, the family moved to keep house for the neighbour, Jack Enion, and Wes worked as a hired hand. He trapped muskrat and sold the pelts to help the family finances to send his sisters for schooling in Winnipeg.
Wes married Pat Edmonds in July 1954 and raised a family of five children, Julia, Doug, Debby, Cathy and Boyd. Wes attended the University of Regina in 1966. In 1967, he took his machinist trade and received top honours with Apprenticeship and Tradesman’s Qualification as Machinist from the Institute of Applied Arts and Science in Saskatoon in May 1968. Wes bought a farm south of Maryfield in 1970 and set up his own repair business called Midway Machine. He did lathe, milling and welding to make repairs on farm and oilfield equipment for the surrounding townships. He taught his sons the machining business. Wes had a sharp mind and was most happy doing mechanical repairs. He was also very social and loved to tell stories. After the children were grown, he sold his farm to his son-in-law and moved his business to Carievale, Saskatchewan.
In 1990, Wes married Mrs. Audrey Lausch of Lampman and he worked as maintenance at the hospital for several years until and they moved into Estevan. Together they toured the southern United States and took a cruise to Mexico. They moved to Regina while Audrey received her cancer treatments. After her passing, Wes moved out of the city to retire in Moosomin. When his health failed, he was placed in the Wawota Deer View Lodge Care Home.
