It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Knubben on February 19, 2023 at the age of 94, in Regina, SK. He is predeceased by his parents Josef and Katharina Knubben and his brother Hans Josef Romuald Knubben who died in World War II. John is survived by numerous friends and relatives near and far. In 1945, at the age of 16, John was placed in a German Youth Camp. Soon after that the war was over and he was placed in a POW camp by the American Military. He was released from the camp on May 20, 1945. John went on to agricultural college and graduated in 1951. He left Germany on April 6, 1953 on the T.S.S. Neptunia to immigrate to Canada arriving on April 16, 1953 at Pier 21 in Halifax. When he first moved to Canada he held a job as a farm hand, guaranteeing him housing and healthcare. Later, he enrolled in an Engineering Drafting course and worked as a draftsman for the City of Toronto. While with this company he helped draft the first three level interchange in Canada (HWY. 401). John moved to Regina in 1980 where he worked as a draftsman until he retired at age 58 and moved to “St. Georges Farm”, his farm, in 1988. While in Canada John was fortunate enough to materialize his boy-hood dreams: to own a horse and name him “Nimbus”; to own a farm and name it “St. Georges Farm”; and to own a handmade pair of riding boots. John was a very humble person and admired the beauty in life. His presence and down to earth personality will be missed tremendously.
