John was born in Holdfast and it was there that he and Mildred made their home and raised their family. He was a dedicated, hard working man who was deeply committed to his family, church and community. “The Johnny Schatz Household” always had the welcome mat out for family gatherings, pool parties, card games, New Year’s parties and everything else in-between. During his years in Holdfast, Johnny farmed, operated a successful Imperial Oil franchise and worked for the Rural Municipality until his retirement. He enjoyed retirement by staying active in the community, cheering on the Blue Jays, watching curling and welcoming and traveling to visit extended family and friends spread throughout Canada. No distance was to near or far for a good visit and card game. He will be remembered for the many blankets he made, fondly known as “Uncle Johnny blankets”. In 2005 they moved to Regina where they met and developed many more cherished friendships. His love for our country and land was very strong. He loved to drive just to “feast his eyes”. Johnny was always on the go. He was known to run down the hall to ensure his guests received their refreshments. A loving, dedicated husband and father. He will be forever remembered as a gentle soul, with a smile on his face supported by his quiet and sincere manner. He played the hand of life that he was dealt and played it well.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bester and Shirley along with the doctors, nurses and support workers at Palliative Care.
