Johnny M. Chernoff passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. He was born October 24, 1950 in Wadena, Saskatchewan to Mike and Mollie Chernoff. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Georgina M Chernoff; two brothers Stan and Sam; sister Pat; two sons Michael and Peter; six grandchildren Channing, Taylor (Riley), Kaytlin, Chayce, Shaylyn and Leah; as well as one great-grandchild, Hudson, with another one on the way. Johnny was predeceased by his mother; father; and brother Peter.
Johnny worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and had a great respect for the tools he used. He enjoyed the country life and helping out his friends and neighbours any chance he could. One of Johnny’s favourite things was playing his guitar and singing old country songs that he grew up listening to. Johnny had a knack for storytelling and could make the simplest story take an hour to tell. He had a great love for his Russian heritage and passing along his borscht recipe to his sons and grandchildren. He always made sure there was fun to be had when his grandkids visited the farm in Lumsden, with egg roll/perogie parties, bonfires, fireworks, and always had the pool filled. Johnny had many hobbies including cooking, woodworking and other projects. He was always able to make something out of nothing. For all these reasons he will be missed dearly.
A viewing will take place on Wednesday January 17th at 7:00pm until 8:00pm at Lee’s funeral home, 3101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan S4T 0Y5. Any friend of Johnny’s is welcomed by the family to come say their goodbyes.
