Lorraine Ehman passed away peacefully on April 25th at the age of 95. Born and raised on a farm at Holdfast, Lorraine Rogoschewsky married Art Ehman in 1951. They made their own farm home near that community, moving into town in 1979. After Art’s death in 1986, Lorraine remained in the house he built for her until 2015, when she moved to Regina and adapted well to city life.
Mom always insisted that she had never worked very hard, all evidence to the contrary. She raised five kids in a small house on a mixed farm, with all the responsibilities that a rural lifestyle of that era entailed. She was a good cook and a wonderful baker whose door was always open to family and friends. Countless family gatherings were held over the years and invitations were always informal, with no pressure to attend. That’s probably why we all kept showing up, in growing numbers as the family expanded.
Well-known for her beautiful knitting and intricate needlework, Mom also loved playing cards, especially Bridge. She was a skillful and often cutthroat player. She grew an impressive garden, and her town yard was always in perfect order. An avid reader, she also enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles; the more challenging the better. Music was a pleasure and comfort to her, always.
A woman of strength, with a keen intellect and dry wit, Mom’s no-nonsense approach to life served her well. This was especially true when, after 93 years of independent good health, she suffered an injury that forced a final and significant lifestyle change. Hard as it must have been to adapt, she never complained. Thanks to the wonderful team at PJ’s Personal Care Home in Lumsden, Mom received exemplary care in a family-like setting for the duration of her life.
Lorraine is survived by her children: Karen Kotelko, Barry Ehman and Lorri Crittenden; Shannon and Ken McArton; Kelley Ehman and Wade Bartlett; and Kirk and Lorelei Ehman. Her much-loved grand- and great-grandchildren include Mary and Drew Kells, Nolan and Declan; Dustin Ehman, Kailee and Valorie; Kristen and Chris Vanthuyne, Taelyn and Finley; Alexis Kotelko, Nick and Angie Kotelko and Celeste; Jordan (Alex) Ehman, Jesse Ehman, Emily (Ryan) Bartlett and Thomas (Alyssa) Bartlett.
