January 2, 1947 – July 8, 2025
With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Martin Albin Echtner in the evening of July 8, 2025, at the Pasqua Hospital ICU in Regina, Saskatchewan, with his entire family by his side. He was 78 years old.
Martin is survived by his devoted wife, Loretta Echtner; his children Adrian (Hilary), Martin (Kim), Melissa (Ali), and Michael (Nicole); and his beloved grandchildren Presley, Meredith, Jace, Seth, and Benjamin. He will also be dearly missed by extended family in both Canada and Germany.
Born on January 2, 1947, Martin emigrated from Germany to Canada around the age of 20, where he built a life grounded in hard work, deep love for his family, and a determination that knew no bounds. Martin could do just about anything—and if he didn’t know how, he would teach himself. Whether it took hours, days, or years, he would figure it out and add it to his ever-growing list of skills.
He was a man of great heart, quiet strength, and remarkable resilience. His hands were always busy, his mind always curious, and his love for his family unwavering. He will be remembered for his ingenuity, his gentle humour, and his deep pride in the people he loved.
Martin is reunited in passing with his beloved mother and brothers, as well as his cherished mother- and father-in-law, who were an important and loving part of his life. He is also welcomed by many extended family members who went before him.
A Memorial Mass will be held in Holy Family Parish in Regina (1021 McCarthy Blvd.) on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 11 a.m. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream of the service will be available at this link: https://youtube.com/live/tvrVFw41GV0?feature=share . A reception lunch in the Parish Hall will follow the mass. The family will be having a private interment.
The care Martin received in the ICU was extraordinary, and the family is forever grateful to the dedicated doctors and nurses who stood by him with compassion and skill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation in his honour.
He will be missed beyond words and remembered always.
