She was predeceased by her husband Mike Chernick; parents Steve and Kathleen Lucas; son-in-law Lloyd Ward; granddaughter-in-law Kathy Nakonechny; and siblings Vandal Lucas, Steve Lucas, Frank Lucas and Helen Mitrusky.
Mary is survived by her sister Matilda Vass; daughters Jean Ward, Annette (Mervyn) Nakonechny, and Rita (Anthony) Bereti; grandchildren Darryl Ward, Lorianne (Perry) Ward, Darren, Jayson (Lynne), and Curtis (Corilynn) Nakonechny, Lisa Bereti and Royce (Irene) Bereti; nine great-grandchildren; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Born in 1920 in the Arpad, Saskatchewan area, Mary married Mike in 1937 and moved to a farm North of Dysart to have and raise her three daughters. She then retired to Cupar in 1975 with Mike. Mary loved gardening, farming, playing bingo and cards, attending church and the +50 seniors group. After her beloved Mike passed on August 12, 1997, Mary then went on to live in her home in Cupar until July 2021. After July, she stayed at Sunset Extendicare and later settled into the Cupar and District Nursing Home.
The family would like to thank all of the healthcare workers, nurses and doctors who helped to keep Mary comfortable in her last months.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cupar, SK. Interment and Reception to follow.
