"Skinner" "Sonny"
August 6, 1968 – November 13, 2025
Morley James McKenzie Crawford, affectionately known as "Skinner" or "Sonny," passed away last Thursday after a long and courageous battle with Huntington's disease. He was 57 years old.
Morley was a beloved brother, father, son, and friend. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing him loved him. He was a "stand-up guy" with a strong spirit, inherited from his Crawford and McKenzie roots. While he was known for his toughness, he never had a bad word to say about anyone and was always the first to help a friend in need—a true "good dude."
An exceptional athlete, Morley played minor league hockey, baseball, and curled, but it was on the football field where he truly excelled. As a middle linebacker, he wasn't just a tackler; he was a feared "big hitter" who set the tone for the entire team. His talent earned him a spot as the starting "Sam" linebacker in the 1987 North Saskatchewan Senior Bowl. I can say without bias that Morley was one of the toughest and most talented players i ever coached.
He had a deep love for the outdoors, where he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and camper. He was incredibly proud of his children and cherished the times he spent hunting and fishing with them.
Morley earned his B.Ed. and taught for four years in Saskatchewan and Manitoba before making a career change to become a carpenter.
About fifteen years ago, life changed for Morley when he was diagnosed with Huntington's disease. He faced this terrible illness with immense strength and resilience. As the disease progressed, it robbed him of his coordination and strength, making walking, talking, and eating a struggle. Despite being immobilized for the last three years at the Wascana Rehab Center. He never complained or felt sorry for himself. He remained self-conscious about his symptoms, and he was happy whenever family and friends came to visit him.
It broke our hearts to see such a strong man diminished by this disease, but we take comfort in knowing he is now in a better place, free from his suffering and at peace.
Morley is survived by his loving children: his son Sean, his daughter Carly, and his stepsons Cory and Josh. He was a good Dad who loved all of his kids deeply.
Sonny, we miss you and love you dearly. You fought the good fight, brother. Now it is time to rest. You were the toughest "Dude" I ever met, and you will be in our hearts forever. Tell Ned we miss the "Moldy" bugger. Adios, Amigo.
