1916 – 2012
Robert Allan Fulton (Bob) was born July 5th, 1916 on a farm near Pierson, Manitoba. He is predeceased by his loving partner and best friend Aileen, two brothers Andy and Gordon and two sisters Mary and Gladys. He is survived by his children Michael and Patricia (Al), special family friends Elaine and Carol, his grandchildren, Steven (Cheryl), Shawn (Kendra), Scott (Angela), Chris (Kaitlyn) and Jennifer and his great grandchildren Rosco and Suki Fulton Kembel. Bob passed away on Friday June 8th around 3:00 PM just 22 days before his 96th birthday. After completing his grade eleven Bob was called to work for the CNR where he served as an apprentice in Transcona, North Battleford and Prince Albert. He married his life partner Aileen on October 1st, 1938 in Transcona, a marriage that lasted for 69 years. Robert joined the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve and served for four years in St. John, Halifax, Victoria and Winnipeg and achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After serving in the Naval Reserve, Robert returned to North Battleford as a Carman with the CNR. His leadership skills were soon recognized which led to postings in Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and finally in Regina were he served as Car Foreman for the rest of his working career. His personal interests included tennis, golf, curling, lawn bowling and cheering on the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was a long time season ticket holder and a great fan of Ronny and George and always pointed out that no one could ever replace them. Robert lawn and carpet bowled, continued to drive his car and lived in his own home into his 94th year. He continued to read the newspaper throughout his lifetime and was up-to-date with local and national news and sports. He also attended the United Church on a regular basis and particularly enjoyed the support he received from members of the congregation and in particular from past minister, Robin Osborne. Robert was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Masonic Order. In their retirement years Robert and Aileen spent their winters in Florida and later after Dad experienced a heart attack while in the United States they spent several years on Vancouver Island near Parksville. Robert lived a very active life and was truly an amazing individual, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved to be with people and loved to tell stories from his past. He deeply missed his loving wife of 69 years for whom he had served as caregiver during her declining years. Bob and Aileen lived in North Battleford, Saskatoon and Regina. In the fall of 2010 he moved to Prince George to live with his daughter Pat, son-in-law Al and granddaughter Jennifer. He sold his house in Regina the following summer and the move to Prince George was complete. After moving to Prince George Bob was invited back to Saskatchewan to walk down the aisle with our adopted sister Elaine and present her to her new husband Gabe. This was a very proud moment for our Dad. We would like to acknowledge Pat and Al Telford who acted as Dad’s caregivers in his final one and a half years of life in Prince George, Carol and Elaine and other members of the family who supported him both before and after Mom’s passing, and the following three supports in Prince George: Dr. Ruth Powell who agreed to add Dad to her caseload, the staff at the Rainbow Day Center where Dad spent his Fridays and finally the Rotary Hospice House where he spent his final few days. A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 20th 2012 at 1:00 PM. at the Victoria Avenue Funeral Home, 2080 East Victoria Avenue, Regina
