March 24, 1947 – January 21, 2017
Valerie passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Pasqua Hospital on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the age of 69 years, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was pre-deceased by her parents Helen and Ambrose Reid, her brother Glenn, and his son Mitchell. Valerie is survived by her loving husband Eric of 48 years, their two children Kevin and Colin, and her brother Terry, all in Regina; her sister Judy Rudd (Keith) in Florida, USA; her sister-in-law Sylvia Monka in Kelowna, B.C.; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada, USA, and England; and her many very close almost-like-family friends. Valerie was born at Sunny Side Trinity Bay, Newfoundland and spent the first 12 years in Howley, Newfoundland. Following the death of her father (1959), the family moved to Regina where Valerie attended Balfour Collegiate. At age 18, she went to work at the Saskatchewan Hospital in Weyburn, Saskatchewan as a nursing assistant; it was here she met her husband, Eric. They were married September 28, 1968, in Regina, and settled here to raise their two sons. Valerie worked at Pioneer Village Nursing Care Home as well as a few other business places in Regina over the years, however, her greatest priority was her family in her role as wife and mother. She had a very close relationship with her family and will always be loved and missed by them. Valerie was a very loving, caring, compassionate person. She will always be remembered for her generous, soft heart, kind and compassionate nature, and beautiful soul. She was the most beautiful person both inside and out and will be in our hearts forever. She enjoyed working in her yard, growing beautiful flowers, crafting activities, and baking as well as spending quality time with family and friends. In our minds, she is the perfect wife and mother. God bless her. Special thanks to the Allan Blair Cancer Center Care team and Palliative Care Services at Pasqua Hospital for their compassionate care as well as the home care services Valerie received. As per Valerie’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral. The family will hold a short, private graveside service at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Regina, for immediate family and relatives only, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes may make a donation to the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, S4T 7T1 in Regina, or The Canadian Mental Health Association, 1810 Albert Street, S4P 2S8 in Regina.
Arrangements under the direction of Victoria Avenue Funeral Home and Cremation, Regina, SK.
