

SCHAEFER– It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Valerie Schaefer late of Regina, on Saturday May 24, 2014 at the age of 92 years. She passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving husband of 67 years 10 months. Besides George, she is survived by her children Richard (Sharon), Ituna; Henry, Weyburn; Phyllis (Greg), Regina; Ronald, Queen Charlottes, B.C.; Vernon (Donna), Sedley; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, brother Joe Tokarz, brother-in-law John and wife Carrie Schaefer, sister-in-law Ella Schaefer and numerous nephews and nieces. Valerie was predeceased by her parents Cyril and Anna Tokarz, brother Henry, an infant daughter, and sister-in-law Dorothy Tokarz. Throughout Valerie’s life her faith was very important, sustaining her in good times and bad. She taught hundreds of students, mainly in small rural schools, for 35 years. After retiring, she and George travelled to the USA, becoming snowbirds for over ten years. She enjoyed her family, gardening, crafts, sewing which included making a feather quilt for each of her grandchildren. We would like to thank Extendicare Elmview for the wonderful and loving care for the last six years of her life. We thank everyone for their love and support at this time. Prayers will be held at Victoria Avenue Funeral Chapel, 2080 E Victoria Ave., Regina at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 29. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary’s, 2026 Winnipeg St. on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Vitalis Azike presiding, interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined.
