A Celebration of Walter’s life will be held at Lee Funeral Home, 3101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date.
Walter was born on May 9, 1949, in a rural location in the Jasmine, Saint Delphine area and later lived in Dysart and Balcarres. Walter was the 12th child of 13 children born to Pierre an Adeline (nee Ross) Desjarlais. He married at an early age to Brenda (nee Smith) and had three children, Tara, Troy and Peter. He also had two grandsons, Brandon and Jayden. Walter was a family man and loved getting together with his brothers and sisters and his extended family to play cards and share a meal. He loved hunting which he often shared with his nephews and kids. He always joked around and enjoyed seeing people laugh. While playing cards, you would often hear someone saying ‘Today Walter!’, signaling to him that it was his turn since he was telling a story or joking around and not paying attention to cards. In early 2000, Walter was diagnosed with colon cancer and after a successful operation, including chemotherapy and radiation, he was given a clean bill of health. However, about 10 years later, the cancer returned; this time metastasized to his lungs and eventually his other organs. Walter was a fighter, a very strong man and although he outlived the doctor’s expectations, he eventually lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, January 25, 2018. He will forever be loved and missed by many.
