

Donald A. “Don” Hertzog, 81, of Hamburg, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 12, 2013. He was the loving husband of Virginia M. (Donton) Hertzog. The couple married in Reading on September 1, 1951.
Born in Blandon on May 7, 1932, he was a son of the late Clinton A. and Edna M. (Clay) Hertzog.
Don was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fleetwood and a lifetime member of the Ivy Leaf Association. He was an avid race car fan.
In 1949, Don joined the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Sierra during the Korean Conflict until 1954. He was employed for 38 years with Gliddon Paint Company as a truck driver. Later he was employed part time as a truck driver for Jet and Reading Plating Company.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, Don is survived by three children: Donna M. (Dennis) Shupp of Bernville, Sharon L. (Kenneth) Knerr of Fleetwood and Jeffrey A. Hertzog of Fleetwood; seven grandchildren:Christopher, Amy, Denny, Jeremy, Erin, Patrick and Josh; seven great grandchildren: Amanda, Christopher, Jr., Jordan, Alyssa, Kevin, Champagne and Jeremy, Jr. and one great great grandson: Nikolas.
Also surviving are four brothers: Paul, Elwood, Clarence and Marvin Hertzog and a sister: Gladys Clemens.
He is predeceased by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Hertzog and a sister, Edna Hertzog.
Services for Don are private and at the convenience of the family.
