

He was born in Reading on December 23, 1943, to the late James Henry Sr. and his
wife, Willie Lee (Bush) Hopkins.
James received his education in the Reading school district and ran cross country for the "Castle on the Hill" (Reading Senior High School). In his senior year, he and his best friend, Bob Bailey, decided to serve their country. In 1961, James became a proud member of the United States Marine Corps.
For 43 years, he was a dedicated employee at Windsor Service (currently H & K Group).
Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife, Viola E. (Bowen) Hopkins; two sons, James H. Hopkins III and Charles E. Hopkins; six daughters: Cynthia L. Hopkins, Shannan D. Gordon, Amanda T. Hopkins, Tina M. Matthews, Nancy L. McCaulay and Tracey L. Davis; two sons-in-law, Alan E. Davis , Sr. and Brandon N. Gordon, Sr; and one daughter-in-law, Lisa Marie Hopkins.
He was also dearly beloved by 13 grandsons, five granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and a host of nephews, nieces, friends, and "adopted" children.
James is preceded in death by his son, Anthony D. Hopkins, and his grandson, Saxxon Lee Hopkins.
For over 20 years, James served as a member of the Marine Corps League R M Butterweck Detachment 465, located in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania.
James had an extensive crew of friends at the Deluxe Diner in Shillington that he hung out with daily. He was a loyal Marine, a great friend, an outstanding employee but most of all, an awesome husband and father. He will be missed by everyone and all and who loved him deeply.
A Going Home celebration will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015, in Auman's, Inc., Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Family will receive friends in the funeral home for viewing, Monday from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m.; funeral will immediately follow. James will be laid to rest with his fellow servicemen and women in Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of James to the Marine Corps League, R M Butterweck, Detachment #465, 550 Columbia Ave., Sinking Spring, PA 19605.
