James G. "Jim" Kern, 70, of Reading, formerly of Baltimore, MD, passed away in Mifflin Center on Friday, January 24, 2014. He was the loving husband of Karen A. (Bond) Kern. The couple shared 49 years of marriage on January 23, 2014. Born June 25, 1943 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Walter and Loucel (Miller) Kern.
He moved his family to Reading in 1984. Jim retired in 2002 after 34 years as a senior operator with Agere Systems Inc.
In addition to his wife Karen, Jim is survived by two sons: James G. Kern Jr., and his wife Consuelo, of Cary, NC and Dennis G. Kern, and his wife Lori, of Sinking Spring and three grandchildren: Jordan M., Kyle E. and Camila E. Kern.
A funeral service for Jim will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2014 in Auman's Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading.
