I am so sorry to learn of Richard's passing. My mother, Helen, worked with him at Store 2 in Boston for many years. I also knew him from my part-time work there during high school and college. He and Mom exchanged Christmas cards for years after her retirement. She used to say that "Mr. Rogers' card is always the first to arrive!" (Yes, she was old school and still called him Mr. Rogers, as was the way in Woolworth's.) After she passed (ironically, also on a September 18) in 2004, he began sending the Christmas cards to me. A few years ago, he spontaneously began writing to me throughout the year and we had a delightful correspondence. He was much more prompt than I was! I was thinking of him this week and realizing that it was my turn to write, then I saw this. I hope in the days ahead, you will find comfort in the sure knowledge that he is free from all earthly pain and reunited with his beloved "Tess."
