Albert Louis Bemer (Al) passed away November 23, 2010, in Federal Way, Washington. He was born on March 28, 1933, in Iowa City, Iowa. While attending the Iowa State Teachers College, he met Helen Rugland, whom he married on December 27, 1953 in St. Olaf, Iowa. Al was drafted into the Army and stationed at Fort Lawton in Seattle. He then returned to Iowa to start his teaching career, which ended with a 27-year career as a school superintendent in Olin, Winthrop, Denver, and Sac City. In 1989 Al retired and moved with Helen to Seattle.
Al was well known for his sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, playing golf and bridge, reading voraciously, and doing crossword puzzles. Al is survived by his wife, his son Alan Bemer, his daughters, Lynn Bemer Coble, Cheryl Evans, and Jana Bemer, son-in-law Paul Evans, five grandchildren, one brother, and four sisters. A funeral service and reception will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 1700 Edmonds Ave NE, Renton, WA.
