Baltazar Dandin Peña, age 87, passed peacefully on January 29, 2023, in Kent, Washington surrounded by his entire family. He was kind, generous, and thought of others before himself, even during his last days. Always the life of a party, Baltazar brought people together and made people laugh. He was deeply connected to his family. He treated everyone, even strangers like his own. His strong faith gave him courage and comfort throughout life.
Baltazar was born in Sta. Maria Ilocos Sur to Leocadio Bautista Peña and Maria Dandin Peña. He had 14 siblings was an identical twin and had 2 sisters. He started elementary school at age 13 in 6th grade. He joined the Philippine Navy, earned an electrical engineering degree, and worked as a seaman until he immigrated to the United States in the late 1980s. He spoke highly and was most proud of his grandkids, having babysat each of them.
He enjoyed listening to music and was most joyful when his grandkids played their violin and piano. He spent hours in his favorite recliner watching current events on tv and loved to watch sports-especially the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks. He enjoyed catching fish, squid, shrimp, and crab. He spent many hours making his hooks, lures, and jigs for himself and others. He was also proud to show off his backyard garden. His catches and vegetables were happily shared with everyone. He retired at age 62. He lived a full life.
Baltazar is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anastacia Arreola, four children: Edward, Lynn (Manny), Ermin (Emily), Ligaya (Yong), eight grandchildren: Jian Carlo, Samantha, Lexie, Bryan, Eric Joshua, Eliza, Adam, and two great-grandchildren: Nya and Amira. He is preceded by his parents, brothers Esteban, Pablo, Alejandro, and sisters Timothea, Aida, and grandchild Edvi.
Baltazar was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and brother-in-law who will be missed.
A memorial service will take place on February 25, 2023, at 11 am at Greenwood Memorial Park & Funeral Home 350 Monroe Ave NE, Renton. A rosary and viewing will also take place on February 24, 2023, between 3 pm-7 pm at the same location.
