Happy birthday mama. I miss you so much. The spring is upon us and I know how much you loved this season. The flowers remind me of many fond memories of you. Many mornings  waking up and drinking coffee in our nightgowns sitting outside while you told me what every flower or bird was. I will cherish you forever mom you are in my heart always.

In 1942 my family moved to a house just above the Henry residence. Barbara and I became the best of friends over the next four plus years. I would even say she was my first girl friend for we played constantly. Sometimes in the basement of her house and sometimes in the fern covered fields above her home. We would build little houses out of the ferns, make trails, and sometimes even through ferns at passing cars from the hill above the road.  Brother Don made it his job to see that we behaved our selves. There was a neighbor down hill from us who had a moss covered hillside in his front yard which we found amusing to roll down. When we started first grade at South Park Elementary we walked together and were joined by other children as we walked along the three miles or so it seemed to me. We would make it an adventure with pretend witch's homes and other dangers to be avoided along the way. (I feel sorry for children of today who must ride buses thus missing all this fun). Of course many times it would be raining so we would be clad in oversize rain gear, bright yellow for safety. These were war years so it was great fun creating victory gardens, picking black berries, and then once in a while taking a bus to visit the Zoo. 

After the war Dad was laid off from Boeing and causing us to move to Salem, Oregon. This was a huge heart break for me as I just loved her. She did attempt to correspond with me one time when we were in the seventh grade. I failed to respond thus ending our relation though she has been in my mind over the years. In fact my daughter Barbara was named for her along with my Grandmother Barbara and a deceased sister Barb.

I had been searching for Barbara these last few years on Facebook. I just now became aware that Google provide another opportunity to find her so it saddens me greatly to have missed her by just a year. It makes me happy that she had a great family full of love.

I love you and miss you and I am so sad that you are gone. I am thankful that you are no longer suffering and know you are in a better place now. You will always be with me in my heart and my memories of you will make me smile and help guide me always. You brought me into this world, nurtured me, raised me, taught me and guided me well. You were the best Mom to me and your love and pride in me will always be felt and appreciated. Mom, I will always hold my head high and shoulders back for you!

The family is in my thoughts and prayers. Mom, every spring when the daffodils come up I think of you. Ironically I planted them in my own yard last fall therefore my first daffodils came up for me this spring. You and I always got excited about the daffodils coming up cuz we knew spring was here.
I loved when you would say to me "If you don't eat your meat you cant have any pudding" then I would reply "how can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat". Then we would laugh and laugh and laugh. Oh you can make people laugh. I cherish that laugh. Because of your love and support you made me the great man I am today. I am grateful to you Barbara (mom) and love you with all my heart.

You is kind  You is pretty and You is smart.  Mom, you are not gone.  You are forever in my heart and reminders of you constant. How can I express my gratitude to you for being my Mom and my friend? I could tell you anything and believe me I did, and you just took it in, often listening more than talking. You were a feminist before they called it that. That assertive training class you took in the seventies really kept us kids and Dad in line.  It was the first time I remember you demanding respect and appreciation and we all got a kick out of it Mom.  All of us kids loved you for your gentle and calm ways. You were always affectionate and supportive of us throughout our lives.  You have five grandchildren and they are all girls. Yes! The women will always rule in this family.  I miss you so Mom. I told you you were just like Jim, an easy keeper. You never complained and you never wavered once you made up your mind. You were brave right to the end. Thank you for being my Mom. Today, I was so sure I would see your face.   I thought I would show you the tiny, pink moccasins Mom bought the baby, and the frilly pink coat that would make you so giddy.  I thought you would put your hand on my belly and get to feel her kick.  I thought I would say goodbye to you with a big lipstick kiss on your cheek, just like the ones you use to leave on me when I was little, because that's the kind of woman I want to be;  The kind who leaves behind lipstick kisses, who is brave and strong, who knows a little dirt never hurt, with a mind of her own, a kind heart, and quick wit just like her grandmother.  A few days ago, that is how I pictured today would go.  Instead, the world is a much sadder place.  It is less happy without your laugh, less kind without your voice, and so empty without you here.  I can't keep the air in my lungs long enough to grasp the fact that you are gone and that my little girl won't get to meet you.  It hurts my heart to see Mom without you here today.  I am so lucky to have had you as my Grandma.  I am lucky you raised my Mom to be such a strong person and that she will make such a wonderful grandmother for my daughter too.  I love you, Grandma, and I will miss you forever.

My beautiful Mom,
I will miss your sweet loving face. Everyday I wake up I miss you so much the thought of you gone consumes me. But then I remember you telling me you would be my angel, that you would be watching over all of us. It is you who has always been my staunch defender, my fierce protector, my biggest supporter and my greatest teacher of love, life and loyalty. Because of you I  can pull myself up when I am knocked down. I will just remember you telling me to, " go get em tiger ! " and know you taught me well. You are the reason I will do my best to be the type of mom and grandma that you were. I will miss you everyday and be thinking of you always until we meet again.
Thank you mom for loving my girls the way you loved me.

Dear Momma Lee,
I still can't believe you're not here. I miss your beautiful smile and your warm hand in mine. I have always been so proud of you Mom, so proud to be your daughter. I hope to always make you proud of me. Thank you for loving me, teaching me, showing me the way with your gentle soul. I will look for you in the blue skies, in the flight of a swallow, in purple pansy faces, every springtime, always.
