

Bernardo was born on April 24, 1941, in the Philippines. He lived a remarkable life defined by hard work, dedication to his family, and a spirit of adventure. As a Merchant Marine and Deck Engine Mechanic, Bernardo traveled the world by sea, spending months at a time aboard ships before returning home to his family. His career allowed him to experience many countries and cultures, and he took great pride in his work and the life he built through perseverance and determination.
Above all, Bernardo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila Quirit Fanuncial; his children, Trisha Dombrigue (Gene), Bernard Fanuncial, and Sheena Fanuncial; and his cherished granddaughters, Jayla Dombrigue, Jaslyn Dombrigue, and Jordyn Dombrigue.
He is also survived by his siblings, Ceril Morales, Emma Militante, Oni Abellar, and Ani Davis (Dave), as well 31 nieces and nephews.
Bernardo was preceded in death by his mother, Purificacion Flotildes Abellar; his father, Bernardo Fanuncial; his stepfather, Celestino Abellar; his stepmother, Meding Abellar; and his sisters, Teresita Earley, Josefina Dumlao, and Leticia Duwe.
Those who knew Bernardo will remember his sharp sense of style and his legendary shoe collection. He always enjoyed keeping up with the latest trends and was often admired for having the best shoes in the room. His confidence, warmth, and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He loved a good party, especially if there was a karaoke machine. He never strayed away from singing karaoke; when he got a hold of one, his favorite song to sing was ‘Sweet Caroline’.
Bernardo's legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the countless memories he created throughout his life. He was a generous person, no matter who you were, he was always willing to support and provide what he can. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at GreenWood Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 350 Monroe Ave. N.E., Renton, WA 98056.
Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by the memorial service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A reception will immediately follow from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather, share memories, and celebrate Bernardo’s life and legacy.
His memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
