Betty Pauline Nellis was born April 3rd, 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska to Ed and Pauline Nellis. Betty and her parents would welcome her only sibling, Eddie D. Nellis in 1938. The family would go on to follow Betty’s grandfather, Clarence, to Seattle in 1942 where Ed and Clarence would work as bakers at Van De Kamp’s Bakery for many years. In 1951, a family friend who was currently serving with the United States Navy paid a visit to the Nellis family accompanied by a fellow servicemember by the name of Glen Trowbridge. Glen was serving out of Sand Point Naval Air Station as a fireman. Following this chance meeting, Glen would court Betty until the two were married in Montesano, Washington on April 4th, 1952.
Glen and Betty began their family by welcoming their firstborn, a son, on May 26th, 1953. A family rich in tradition, the couple named their son Glen Elliot as a legacy to both his father and grandfather. After Betty’s husband was discharged from the Navy in June of 1954, the family relocated to Carthage Missouri to be surrounded by extended family. Betty and Glen were blessed with their daughter Kathy in 1955, son Tim in 1957, daughter Kimberly in 1959, and son Samuel in 1965.
In June of 1966 Betty, Glen and their four children relocated to Seattle, Washington. Glen began a career with the Boeing company where he worked for 23 years with unwavering support from Betty who worked dutifully as a homemaker, providing a wonderful life for her husband and children.
When the family moved to Renton, Washington in October of 1966 the family began attending Evergreen Baptist Church in the Maple Hills Community. During her 40 years of attendance Betty was an active church member. The relationships that she built while attending services and bible studies filled her life with joy and companionship, particularly with her closest friend Elmolene Jones. Betty provided incredible floral arrangements at the church for many years and took pride in ensuring that the sanctuary looked beautiful every Sunday for service.
Betty passed away peacefully at 9:35pm on July 29th, 2022, at the Angel Caring Adult Family Home in Redmond, Washington.
