Branda was born on March 17th, 1954 in Guangdong, China. She was only two years old when she moved to Hong Kong with her family in June 1956 where she would spend her childhood. On December 29, 1969, she immigrated to Seattle, WA along with her family to pursue a better life for herself and her family.
After successfully graduating college at the University of Washington, Branda married John Cheong Luke in June 1975. Together, they had three children: Curtis Luke, Bryant Luke, and Wendy Luke.
In 1991, Branda had divorced from John and found herself determined to raise her three children on her own. With no previous job experience, she was given an opportunity by her dear friend May Wan who asked her a simple question, “What can you do?” Branda replied, “I’m good with people”. That simple response would go on to define her successful career. Branda began as a private banker helping new immigrants open accounts. In 1994, she transitioned to a full time mortgage broker and immediately found a passion for her career. Branda loved helping people by nature and in her career, she loved helping people get into new homes and see their dreams of home ownership fulfilled. She particularly enjoyed the challenges of helping those that were told they could never own a home and turning the challenge into a success story. Branda received many accolades and awards for her work every year up until her retirement from the profession due to her battle with cancer.
Branda’s faith was extremely important to her. Branda was first introduced to Christianity in 1989 by another dear friend, Dora Chin. Branda credits her success and life to her faith in Jesus Christ. She began attending Cornerstone Church in 1996 and continued to belong to the church up until her passing. Branda’s faith was so strong that she constantly said right up until her passing that she felt no fear in dying and that she is at peace with what plans God may have for her.
Some of Branda’s hobbies she enjoyed were singing and exploring delicious new foods to eat. She was always searching for the best of foods in every category known to man. She loved spending time with her friends either in person or talking on the phone. She has always told many that everything she has ever worked for was to provide for her three kids which she loved very much. There was nothing she loved more than her children except for her two young grandchildren: Jayden Luke born October 2008 and Jazmine Luke born April 2010.
In February 2008, Branda discovered she had stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer. Branda was extremely shocked as she had lived a very healthy lifestyle and had never smoked. Branda was determined to fight initial estimates of only one year to live and went on to live three life filled years after her initial diagnosis. Branda lived to see her 57th birthday and passed away peacefully on March 18th surrounded by her children and family.
Branda is survived by her children, Curtis Luke, Bryant Luke, and Wendy Luke; her daughter-in-law Michele Luke; her grandchildren Jayden Luke and Jazmine Luke and a host of close family and friends
