Carol had suffered a stroke in December of 2022 and had thereafter resided in Judson Park Nursing Facility in Des Moines. She entered Valley Medical Center on September 2nd, 2025 with a sudden illness and passed away under hospice care on September 16th. She had been suffering from congestive heart disease for a long time.
Carol was born the daughter of Dr. Albert Cooper and Frances Throckmorton in Seattle.
Due to her father's medical training, she lived in several locations in her early life, including Mt. Vernon, WA; Lake Oswego, OR; New York City, NY, but ultimately spent most of her developmental years living in Seattle. In the summer of 1965 or 1966, she auditioned to join the singing group "Up with People" in New York and traveled with them that summer. Then, she returned to Seattle and enrolled at the University of Washington in the fall of 1966. That freshman year was not her greatest experience, so the following year she enrolled at Seattle Central Community College and did well studying Anthropology, Archeology, and Accounting. She returned to UW in her junior year and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
Due to her mother's prominence in national politics, Carol attended the Republican conventions in 1964 and 1968. She met two future presidents, Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan. Years later, Carol, John, and their younger son Eric visited the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, CA.
It should be noted that she actively worked on an archaeological dig in the summer of 1970 to great success and satisfaction. In her experience on the Dig, she came to be good friends with Teri Vivang, as well as Bob and Tammy Westbrook, who played pivotal roles in her life. Bob introduced her to his good friend, John Jernberg.
Carol and John hit it off and began steadily dating in 1971 and married on May 25, 1974. They went on to have two sons, David (1983) and Eric (1990). Later, after David married, a granddaughter, Rosemary Grace, was born in 2019.
Carol and John bought a house in renton in 1980. They went on to live there until they sold it and moved back to Seattle in 2015.
At first, Carol worked as a Bank Property Management Clerk for what was then known in 1973 as the National Bank of Commerce, now evolved into Bank of America. Carol left the bank in 1983 shortly before David's birth.
Throughout their years together, Carol and John enjoyed taking trips to different western states and Canada, hiking, reading books, going to movies, collecting DVDs and visiting with family and friends. Most of her life was spent as a superb homemaker and staunch believer in Jesus Christ.
In 1977, Carol and John attended a crusade of the Reverend Billy Graham and experienced a spiritual awakening.
Carol was an avid reader and collector of books, ranging from fantasy/adventure, science fiction, romance and spirituality. She was a firm believer in God and the Gospel and was deeply connected to the spiritual teachings of Christ. She found solace in exploring the teachings of the Bible, Gnosticism, Sylvia Browne and the Rosicrucianism of A.M.O.R.C. Even when she could not read on her own, she enjoyed listening to others read her the classics and other works on spirituality.
Everyone will remember her kindness, gentleness, and loving demeanor. She will be sorely missed by many.
