It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chun Chiu (Gene) Luk, 63. Gene passed away peacefully at 1:20am on Thanksgiving morning (11/24/22) with his family and loved ones by his side. He is survived by his son, two sisters, and his mother. He was predeceased by his dad. Gene was born in Hong Kong on April 18, 1959, and is the first son to Tak Suen Luk and Mei Siu Luk.
Gene was a fighter in every sense of the word. He was a skilled and forceful martial artist, starting training during his teens in Wing Chun Gung Fu, and continued training and competing in tournaments right up to the age of 60 with medals and trophies to show for it. In later years, he trained with the Northwest Shito-Ryu Karate Association where he became a Sho Dan – first degree black belt. He would also do kick-boxing in the mornings before heading to work. When he was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer, he fought it for three years like the true fighter he was. His sisters handled every aspect of his care. All he had to do was show up, and he did every time without a complaint. He was courage and strength epitomized.
Gene channeled his natural creativity into becoming a skilled hair stylist. His stylist career spanned 43+ years until he retired in July 2022. He loved his craft, clients, and co-workers. Prior to his stylist career, he had an opportunity to work in fine dining and because of that, he was a Foodie at heart. He loved everything about preparing food, serving it, and eating it. Because of his fine dining experience early on, he always empathized with the hard work of waiters and bus persons and always left them a huge tip – even when the service was not that great. He found tremendous joy in making someone’s day by tipping them well.
Gene’s GREATEST LOVE, blessing, and source of pride was and will always be his son, Adam. He loved his boy so much, and he made sure Adam knew it as there were no shortage of hugs and “I love you’s” between father and son. In every photo of Gene and Adam – they were always photographed in an embrace, hug, or Adam kissing his dad on the cheek. Adam has wonderful memories of his father which he will cherish the rest of his life.
