As a child, Davis was impressively smart and extremely talented. No obstacle was ever big enough to stop him from getting what he wanted. Not even one year old yet, Davis already had two life-long best friends. He grew up alongside his cousin, Rick Phonethep born six months later, and neighborhood friend, Jony Phan born a couple of weeks after him. The three always had each other.
Davis and his best friends attended Dearborn Park Elementary School and later transitioned to Asa Mercer Middle School. He then attended Franklin High School. Davis spent most of his days playing basketball. He was incredible and devoted himself to the art of the game. He was very disciplined about getting better. All the sweat and practice soon paid off on the basketball court. He was known for his agility, speed, handles, hops, and above all else, his fearlessness on the court. He thrived on having the ball in his hands at the very last second to give us the buzzer-beater we all wanted. As much as he loved being on the court, his friends and family loved watching him.
Maybe more than basketball, Davis loved his friends. His loyalty and selflessness attracted others around him. Almost every day, he packed his CR-V full of his friends, front, back, trunk, and even lap to lap. He loved driving to the lake, Seward Park, the loop, the Y dock, Oaktree, and the Z spot. If you know the Z spot, consider yourself a good friend.
Davis will continue to live on in our hearts. He never left us with a dull moment and has imprinted in us his infectious grin, awkward laugh, and memories to last several lifetimes. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and everyone that knew him.
