August 25, 1958 – October 17, 2025
Florante Vetuz Mateo, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. He was born on August 25, 1958, in Pasay, Philippines, to Cirillo and Virginia Mateo, and was one of eleven children.
From a young age, Florante displayed a natural talent for understanding how things worked. This curiosity led him to a lifelong career as a mechanic, a trade through which he not only made a living but also found great joy and pride. It was at repair shop where fate introduced him to Amelia in 1976, a young woman who would often pass by.
Their friendship blossomed into love, and on May 14, 1980, they married, beginning a partnership filled with laughter, resilience, and devotion.
They welcomed their only child, Jason, on January 30, 1983, completing their small but loving family. In 1985, Florante made the difficult decision to move to the United States to provide a better future for his family. Despite the distance, he faithfully returned home every Christmas and New Year to spend time with Amelia and Jason. In 1993, after years of perseverance, he was finally able to bring them both to the U.S., marking the beginning of a new chapter together.
Florante was known for his kind heart, steady hands, and easy smile. He loved singing karaoke, working on cars and motorcycles, and took great satisfaction in fixing anything broken—whether it was an engine or a household appliance. His skill, patience, and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
After decades of hard work, Florante retired on his 65th birthday in 2023, proud of all he had achieved. He and Amelia had begun planning their return to the Philippines to enjoy their golden years together.
Florante passed away surrounded by his wife and son along with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Amelia Mateo, and his devoted son, Jason Mateo. He will be remembered for his warmth, his laughter, and the steadfast love he gave to his family and friends.
Though he may no longer be with us, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
