At 17 years old Frances left home after she graduated from Clay Center High School. During World War II she worked at Remington Arms making bullets and later became an inspector. She then traveled to rainy WA to work on the B-29 bomber. She installed cables, air ducts and ammunition boxes for the tail gunners. After the war she did upholstery for the commercial airplanes. Before her marriage she was working on getting her pilot license. When she got tired of the rain in Washington she would go back to Colorado.
Frances learned to drive and square dance after the death of her husband in 1967. The Renton Senior Center was her home away from home. She learned Hawaiian dancing and tap dance there. She belonged to the sewing group -- crocheting, knitting, and embroidery work. She traveled to many different places including Hawaii, Israel, Egypt, Greece, Panama Canal, Jamaica, Thomas Islands, and Mexico. August was her month to can vegetables and fruits from her big garden. She also played bingo with her friends.
