

Gary Wayne Watkins was born August 28, 1957 in Birmingham, Alabama to Henry and Evelyn Watkins and passed away January 12, 2011 in Renton, Washington at age 53. Gary accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age in Seattle at Walker Chapel AME Church. It was through his faith that kept him strong in his everyday life and during his military service. His family encouraged him to work hard and take pride in everything he did. Gary was full of life he had a great sense of humor he loved to laugh and have a good time. Gary was well respected by all his family and friends; he left a lasting mark on all he met as a man that showed great compassion and respect and his thoughtfulness to offer help to anyone that needed help never turning anyone away. At times he spoke his mind telling it like it is. Gary served in the Army from September 30, 1980 to September 29, 1984 as a mechanic, and continued his passion as a mechanic with the Boeing Company. He enjoyed working on his 1951 Chevy pick up truck, fishing, taking road trips, cooking (a great cook) and his auto mechanics. Gary met his loving wife Detra at Christian Faith Center where they attended on regular basis, and Attended to bible study together. They were married May 4, 2010 their life together as husband and wife was cut short due to his disease out of control. I took care of my husband with great dignity and care and love. Making sure he had the best of care and medical needs. Gary was sharp in mind; he could still response in a way to make a point. He would say I Love You and thank you for taking care of me. Gary took great responsibility in being a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kenneth Ray Watkins; survived by his wife Detra Watkins; two beloved daughters Karmen Watkins and Gari Lynn Watkins; granddaughter Kristionna Duncan; sisters Rita Watkins, Phyllis Smith, Teresa Foster, Anita Watkins, Mia Parnell, Tiffany Watkins; brothers Darryl Watkins Eric Watkins and Henry Watkins Jr.Step daughters Erica Clayton, Gamaliel Moore and Shaleila Moore; step granddaughter Shaylon Clayton; as well as a host of many nieces and nephews.
