On Friday, July 5th, Gerard Frias Bautista passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness. Gerard was born to Ponciano Sr. and Erlinda Bautista on October 1, 1966 in Honolulu, Hawaii. His family lived at Naval Station Treasure Island in San Francisco, California before moving to Westport, WA and finally settling in Renton, WA. Gerard has two younger brothers, Ponciano Jr. and Rex who passed away at birth.
Gerard had a passion for music, playing the trumpet with the Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a member of Black Watch from 1981-82 and the Marauder’s from 1983-86 and continued to play with various senior corps, Renton Civic Band and performing with the San Francisco Renegades for their annual Chinese New Year Parade. Through music, he formed many lasting friendships and spoke fondly of the experiences he had.
Gerard trained with the US Army Rangers, Airborne and Special Forces in Fort Benning Georgia. He obtained a pharmacy technician degree from Renton Technical College in 1996. He then worked for Rainier Pharmacy for 23 years.
He met his future wife Elaine and the two were married in 1999. They raised two children, Ryan and Liana, and always looked forward to enjoying the outdoors during their annual fishing trips to eastern Washington (though he didn’t like eating fish!) and visiting many National parks. Until his death, Gerard lived a simple life and was a family man. On his last birthday all he wanted was to be with his wife and kids.
Gerard is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Rabang Bautista, and his two children, Ryan Bautista and Liana Bautista; his parents Ponciano Sr. and Linda Bautista; his brother Ponciano Jr. and wife Aileen, and their two sons, Logan and Nathan; mother in-law Anita Rabang; brother and sister In-laws: Eduardo and Cynthia Tolentino and Richard and Stephanie Rabang; nieces and nephews: Justin, Katrina, Isabelle as well as numerous other relatives.
