Gordon K Haugen (Bud) was born September 15, 1921 and passed away peacefully in his home July 21, 2012 at the age of 90. He was married to our beloved mother, Helen Koski for 41 years before she passed away in 1986. Gordon attended Franklin High School in Seattle and shortly after graduation entered the Merchant Marines to help in the war effort. He was stationed on the USS Surveyor and traveled from the Aleutian Islands to the South Pacific during World War II. He attained the rank of Ensign and was honorably discharged in 1944. After many years as a Manufacturing Supervisor he retired from Spider Staging.
Dad loved playing and watching golf and meeting with his longtime buddies for lunch once a week. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, archery and playing piano as well as harmonica. He created a lot of memories for us kids. Going clamming, camping and trips to Mt. Rainier with all five of us was quite a spectacle I'm sure, but his patience and love endured. He also participated as a Scout Master for several years and instructed us in archery.
Dad had a great charm about him and was friendly to everyone. He taught us by example that hard work would be the only way to succeed in life. Making the greatest decision of his life, dad accepted the Lord as his his Savior on July 12, 2012 and will be enjoying eternity along with our mom.
He is survived by his 5 children: Diana Gilbert, Nancy Knorr, Douglas Haugen, Alan Haugen and Jane Schneider. Also 9 grandchildren: David Gilbert, Ryan Gilbert, Lisa Knorr, Erika Stober, Breeyn Knorr, Kris Haugen, Michelle Sims, Spencer Haugen and Jennifer Auker. 16 great-grandchildren: Brielle Richardson, David Chandler Gilbert (who passed away in 2008) Brittani Gilbert, Conner Gilbert, Justice Gilbert, Kaylie Trythall, Brady Trythall, Reese Stober, Chase Stober, Blake Haugen, Gianna Haugen, Blane Sims, Bryce Sims, Brock Sims, Kaeden Kalfaolu, Kolton Kalfaolu and one great great great grandchild due in September around dad's birthday.
We will all miss him dearly and remember him as a sweet and gentle father who always offered a listening ear and gracious heart to us and all who knew him.
We will have a graveside memorial at Greenwood Cemetery in Renton, Washington, August 4th, 2012 at 3:00pm. There will also be a dinner served at his home after the service.
