James Hugh O'Brien passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. There aren't enough words to adequately tell the story of this great man, who made the most of his time and leaves behind many fond memories and stories. James was just 75 years old and was soon to celebrate his 54th wedding anniversary with the love of his life, Lynda (Smith). Born and raised in Renton, he was the son of John James and Ann (Loscar) O'Brien, and grandson of James and Nellie (Sedlacek) O'Brien. Jim attended St. Anthony School and Renton High School. He retired after 30 years with Pacific Northwest Bell/US West in telecommunications engineering, only to start his next career working at REI until fully retiring in 2007. He loved life and adventure. During his life Jim had been a skydiver, scuba diver, triathlete, marathon runner, rock climber, mountaineer, and sea kayaker. Recent years saw a rekindling of his love for building and flying model war planes. Most importantly he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Anyone who knew Jim can attest to strong will, determination, and caring. Jim is survived by his wife Lynda; sons James (Robyn) and Richard (Andrea); grandsons Chase, Connor, and Rory; brother William, sisters Mary Ann, Jan, and Susan. Jim was a great man who lived a great life and has left a great legacy.
