Janice was born on March 9, 1941 in Tribune Kansas to the late Dorothy Ruth (Hooten) and Oliver Herbert Baker. They later moved to Mayetta Kansas where Janice graduated from Mayetta Rural High School. She proceeded to Emporia State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education. She taught school in Colby Kansas for five years then returned to Emporia State University and obtained a Masters of Library Science degree. She then became the Music Librarian at Central Washington University in Ellensburg Washington. After a number of years in Ellensburg, she took a job at the Library of Congress in Washington DC. She then worked for a cataloging company cataloging books and other documents for several companies and departments of government. Her love for the Pacific Northwest brought her back to Renton Washington where she was Head Librarian for the Museum of Flight from which she retired.
Throughout her life she made many friends that she stayed in contact with and they as well as her relatives will remember her Christmas greetings and thoughtful gifts. Her favorite hobbies were knitting, quilting, crafting, stained glass, genealogy and cooking. She also had extensive collections of recorded music and books.
Janice is survived by a brother Charles Gordan Baker, two nephews Matthew (Jill) Baker and Robert (Sara) Baker, two great nephews and four great nieces plus several cousins.
