Jerry devoted himself to his children and his parents while also serving in the Washington Air National Guard and working full time at Pacific NW Bell. He was encouraged to take square dancing lessons; an activity he would enjoy for the next 50 years. He made many friends and met Marlynne Hannon. They married in 1986 the same year he retired. In 1991, Jerry retired from the Washington Air National Guard as Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt).
