

Jimmy H. Bryan, 89, of Puyallup, Washington, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026. Born on May 18, 1937, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Jim lived a life defined by generosity, warmth, and devotion to his family and friends. He will be remembered as a loyal, caring husband, father, and friend whose kindness and generosity touched everyone he met.
Jimmy joined the Air Force at the age of 18 and served over 22 years of active service before retiring in September 1977. During those years of faithful service, Jimmy was stationed at bases all over the world, including Bermuda, Norway, Germany and Vietnam. While in Vietnam, Jimmy was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal for exceptional actions and bravery. After retiring from the Air Force, Jimmy returned home to Greenwood, Arkansas and worked as a rural route carrier for the US Postal Service. Upon retiring from the USPS, Jimmy enjoyed life in Greenwood with his wife, JoAnn, and family and friends. In 2017, Jimmy and JoAnn moved to Parkland, WA to be close to their daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jim enjoyed hunting with his brothers and friends in Arkansas and was an avid fisherman. He loved fishing for bass and crappies on the lakes around his house. When he came to Washington to visit, he enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family, whether it was salmon fishing with his sons-in-law, or backyard BBQs surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn, and is survived by his cherished daughters, Rhonda Massey and Hilliary Benningfield, his four grandchildren and their families: Rhonda’s son Bryan Massey and his wife Lexi, Rhonda’s son David Massey and his wife Dana with their two children Dante and Dylan, Hilliary’s sons Caleb Benningfield, and Nick Benningfield. His legacy of hard work, dedication, sacrifice and loyalty lives on through them and all who were lucky enough to know him. Jimmy will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held on June 18, 2026, at Voiles Funeral Home in Sumner, Washington.
