

Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1934, he was primarily raised in Atlanta and Barnesville, Georgia. Jack graduated from Georgetown University in 1956 and served in the Army peacekeeping forces in Korea. He settled in New York City and started a career on Madison Avenue in marketing and advertising, pioneering many of the analytic processes that drive much of our current businesses. He married Virginia "Ginny" Hettler in 1966, and they moved from New York City to Pelham Manor to raise their family. In 1975 they relocated to Houston. In 1983 Jack returned to Atlanta, where he lived close to his brother and sister-in-law Martha and his nephews until moving in 2012 to Seattle, where three of his children had settled.
Jack enjoyed quiet pleasures, reading voraciously and finding time for good conversation and a cold drink with family and friends. He was very active with his alma mater alumni association. He enjoyed recreational sports through his life, becoming an active runner who competed well into his 60s.He loved camping and hiking, and completed many sections of the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia.
Jack is survived by his children, John, Beth, Susan and Kevin Mitcham, his sister Elizabeth Kramer, his brother Wilson Mitcham, six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family asks that those inclined make a donation in Jack's name to the Parkinson's Disease research organization of their choice.
