Kathryn Deacy, 90, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 28, 2016, in Renton, Washington. Kathryn was born in Dickinson, North Dakota, on November 26, 1925, one of seven children born to Joseph and Marion Scheeler. She was raised in Billings, Montana, and graduated as a registered nurse from St. Vincent School of Nursing. She and her sister Geri then followed their sister Lola to Seattle, Washington. Kathryn worked as a surgical nurse at Renton Hospital and lived in the nurse’s home.
Adjacent to the hospital grounds was Saint Anthony Catholic Parish. It was there that she met Harold Deacy. They were married in the “old church” on July 5, 1951. Harold and Kathryn raised their family of five children in the Deacy-family home (since 1925) across the street from the parish. With her children attending St Anthony School, Kathryn served for a time as the school nurse. Kathryn was a member of St. Anthony’s Altar Society for many, many years and served as President for four years. She spent untold number of hours over the years lovingly caring for and cleaning the church. She was a member of the very first team selected as Eucharist Ministers. She also served as a lector at daily Mass. Kathryn is also remembered for her many kindnesses to the Sisters of Charity living in the convent and to neighbors and friends.
Kathryn is dearly missed by her husband Harold of 65 years, her children Patrick (Theresa), Alice, Donald, Joanne, Jackie (Anthony Hardt), and her granddaughters Lauren (DJ) Weidner and Alex Deacy.
