Kay was born in Mississippi attending both high school and college near her hometown. After college, she moved to Florida where she taught elementary school music and met her future husband, Jerry. They moved to Seattle shortly after their wedding where they spent several years before relocating to the Midwest and starting a family. Kay and Jerry always hoped to return to the Pacific Northwest and when the opportunity came up, they made their way back to the Seattle area.
Kay had a passion for music and dedicated her career to teaching choir, classroom music and drama for grades ranging from elementary to high school.
Kay loved singing with her church choir, getting together with friends to study new instruments, and participating in community theater. She had a sparkling personality and enjoyed meeting new people. She easily made lifelong friends and made a point of staying in touch, keeping up to date on what was going on in their lives with a phone call or a handwritten note by mail.
Kay is survived by Jerry, her husband of 53 years, her two children, and grandchildren.
Donations in Kay’s name may be made to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation (michaeljfox.org) or to the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (mhopus.org) which supports music education in our schools.
