Val passed away unexpectedly on October 5, 2020 of complications from a stroke. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Evelyn Richardson and is survived by her husband, Kenneth Marshall, brothers Ernest (Mercedes) Richardson, Dennis (Lorraine) Richardson, children Shelly (Dan) and Charlene (Randy), grandchildren Aly (Tim), Niki, Max and Kendal, a great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
Val was born in Enumclaw, grew up in Black Diamond and was a 1957 graduate of Enumclaw High School. After graduation, she worked for Bell Telephone Company and then Farmers Mutual Insurance Company, both in Enumclaw. After her kids started school, she worked for the Issaquah School District, initially as a library assistant at Apollo Elementary and then at Clark Elementary as a special education assistant .
Family was always most important to her, whether it was raising her children or attending grandkids sporting events, plays, car shows, parades, or college visits. Friends and neighbors were second in line as she helped family members and friends with appointments or shopping, chatted “over the fence”, or they took walks around the neighborhood. She loved catching up with high school classmates and planning their yearly reunions, planning the “Richardson” Black Diamond Labor Day festivities (even though she would deny this), gardening and her flowers, reading and passing along a good book, and even writing letters to long time friends.
Should you read a good book, think of her and pass it along.
