Leslie Vernon Jacobs

Leslie Vernon Jacobs, 98, of Skyway, WA passed away February 1, 2025, in Renton, WA. He was born on a farm on October 4, 1926 in Rothsay, Minnesota to Albert L. and Amanda E. Jacobs. He walked three miles each day to a rural, one-room school with eight grades and two teachers.

In 1935, the Jacobs family moved to Fergus Falls, MN where Leslie attended school until the family moved to Seattle, WA in 1943. Leslie started at the Boeing Company at the age of 16, working the night shift and attending school during the day.

In July 1945, Leslie joined the United States Army and completed training at Camp Roberts, CA. After training, he was transferred to the Army Air Force and deployed overseas as a ground crew chief for a B-29 squadron in the South Pacific during World War II.

Upon returning home in November 1946, he went back to working at the Boeing Company as a machinist, where he remained until his retirement in January 1992 after 45 years of service. Leslie met Billie Jean Palo in 1947, who he married on June 25, 1948. They were married for 59 years before her passing in 2007. Leslie and Billie had two children, their daughter LeeAnn and son Scott.

Leslie was very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9430 in the Skyway area. Leslie served as a post officer in a variety of positions for 65 consecutive years, including Post Commander and Chaplain.

He is survived by his daughter, LeeAnn (Bill) Rissler; grandchildren, Dusten (Robin) Jacobs, Shannon (Mike) Twiss, and Chelsey Rissler (Brian McGoorty); 3 great-grandchildren; sister Genevieve “Jenny” Iles; and longtime friend Donna Peterson. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Amanda Jacobs; his wife, Billie Jacobs; his son, Scott Jacobs; his sister, Lucille Cadwell; and longtime friend Orville Peterson.

A visitation for Leslie will be held Friday, March 14, 2025 from 10 AM-1 PM, followed by a funeral service from 1-2 PM, and a graveside service from 2-3 PM at Greenwood Memorial Park Funeral Home, 350 Monroe Ave NE, Renton, WA.
