Louis (Lou) Umbert Fontana, 94, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2024, with his devoted wife by his side.
He was born on June 8, 1929, to Armido and Victoria Fontana, joining his older brother Lawrence Growing up in the Georgetown area of Seattle, he attended St. George Elementary, and Cleveland H.S. The family then moved to Healdsburg, California, where he graduated from Healdsburg H.S. in 1948. Dad served in the U.S. Army from 1950 - 1951 and worked at Boeing his entire career from 1949 – 1991.
In 1953, Dad met and married the love of his life, Antoinette. Together, they raised their four children: Steve, Lola, Wanda and Carla, building a life filled with love, laughter and lots of dancing...often dancing the night away until the music ended. We were blessed to celebrate their 70th anniversary with them last August.
Being so very proud of his Italian heritage, Dad was an active member and regularly volunteered at the local Italian social clubs: Italian Club, Sons of Italy and Westside Italian Civic Club, forming lifelong friendships.
His vibrant love of life and gentle presence touched many and kept him active well into his 90s. Dad enjoyed: working in his garden, a 'nice glass of Vermouth' before dinner, Friday night coffee with 'the gang', Saturday morning get togethers at 'The Bakery' and sharing his arm smile with everyone he met.
Dad was a wonderful husband and father, but he excelled at being a "Nonno" to his grandchildren...supporting them in every way. It was important for him to create lasting and very special memories, from family gatherings at Birch Bay, to searching for crabs at the beach, making s'mores and loading everyone into the back of 'Nonno's truck' for the mandatory trip for ice cream.
Dad will be greatly missed by all who knew him and will be remembered for his kindness, generous spirit, sense of humor, warm heart and his ever-present smile.
He is survived by his loved and cherished wife, Antoinette; children, Steve, Lola (Nick), Wanda (Jon), Carla (Ted); beloved grandchildren: Lucca, Justin (Margo), Gianna (Steven), Kelsey, Logan (Milana), Niccolina and Great-grandchildren: Etta, Zora, Gabriella; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
We love you Dad and are so very grateful for the memories you leave us with that will be forever in our hearts. We know you 're up there dancing with the angels, until we meet again.
A public viewing will be held at Greenwood Memorial Funeral Home, 350 Monroe Ave NE, Renton, Wa. on April 22, 2024, from 1:30-4:30. Private burial services will be held for immediate family only. A celebration of Dad's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, you may honor dad with donations to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
