Marcella Joan Wright (nee Roberts) passed into Jesus’ arms on September 22, 2025. She was born at home on November 10, 1933, in Allen, Nebraska, to Mamie and Russell Roberts. Growing up a farm girl, she attended Oakdale School, a one-room schoolhouse, through the 8th grade. Upper grades were attended at Allen Consolidated School, graduating in 1951, after which she worked at Waldbaum’s Egg Processing plant in Wakefield. Later she moved to Sioux City, Iowa, to share an apartment with a girlfriend, working at J.C. Penney to pay the rent.
On June 15, 1952, Marcella married Herman L. Wright in her parents’ yard on the farm in Allen, Nebraska. They honeymooned in Wichita, Kansas, while looking for work, and Herman was hired as a modification mechanic at Boeing Wichita. Herman and Marcella eventually settled in Goddard, Kansas. While raising four children, Marcella earned extra money for the family by taking in ironing and writing a gossip column for the local newspaper. The family moved to Washington state in 1961 where Herman continued his career with Boeing. In 1962 they settled in the Kent valley, calling it home for the next 39 years. Marcella kept busy raising her children, cooking delicious meals, sewing homemade clothes, keeping an immaculate home, and tending and preserving produce from their large garden. She volunteered for many years - at the children’s schools as a room mother, on the PTA, and at the family’s church. She was always a servant to others. Marcella spent time working at voter polling locales in Kent/Auburn. Her other employment included Northwest Metals, in Kent, and 13 years at Boeing, retiring in January 1991.
Looking to downsize, they moved to a smaller home in 2001 in Algona, Washington. They resided there until 2010 when they moved to the Wesley Homes Community in Auburn, Washington. She enjoyed birds, especially hummingbirds, admiring trees, tending her flowers, reading books and the newspaper, especially the “funnies”, building jigsaw puzzles and doing word searches, and being with her family.
Marcella was predeceased by her husband, Herman, on February 14, 2023, having celebrated 70 years of marriage. She is survived by her three sisters and a brother; her four children, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren; many extended family members, and friends made while living at Wesley Homes. She will be greatly missed by those who loved and knew her.
